Adventures around the world: Mexico Day of the Dead
During the Day of the Dead celebrations families travel to cemetaries and decorate the graves of their family members before spending an entire night sleeping next to the graves. According to legend the souls of the dead come to life on the Day of the Dead; consequently food is left at altars around the city which is meant for the lost souls to find nourishment. Families light candles at the graves so that the light will draw the souls back to the graves.
In small towns parades are held where people dress up in a halloween-esque fashion leading a congregation to the graveyards where a small party occurs in honor of the dead.
